Lomi-Lomi:
Also known as Loving Hands Massage or Hawaiian Body Temple Massage.
The sacred full body worshiping Lomi-Lomi massage is characterized by its very large, broad strokes, as well as two-handed strokes that enlist the forearms and elbows. Lomi-Lomi technique covers a broad area of the body working left, right, top and under the body. Works the muscles often simultaneously to over stimulate the nervous system and encourage the continuous flow of love, energy and harmony. This full body worshiping massage is typically done nude with no draping. This can be very relaxing complete zoning out experience and/or sensual/erotic goddess awaking experience. Because of this I would typ. do more of a traditional massage with draping on the front and the back with Lomi-Lomi for first timers.
Relaxation (Esalen):
A massage utilizing long flowing strokes, the emphasis being on client relaxation and aiding in the elimination of toxins and metabolic waste, not treatment for any specific condition.
Deep Tissue:
The term "deep" typically refers to the client's perception of depth. The therapist will target chronic patterns in the body through pressure on contracted areas, following or going across the grain of muscles and associated structures, and apply appropriate stretches to lengthen muscle when necessary.
Connective Tissue:
Deep connective tissue massage is also said to restore the length and flexibility to the fascia (the fibrous tissue that surrounds the muscles and organs), by normalizing the tissue and by improving the strength and overall health of the entire fascial system. Deep connective tissue massage borrows many of its techniques from traditional Swedish massage. However the pressure that a massage therapist applies during a deep connective tissue massage is more intense, and massage oil or lotion isn't typically used.Using oil with light repetitive strokes will warm and desensitize, and when done long enough will penetrate deeply. This massage is good for joints and preparing sensitive clients for deeper work.
Myofascial trigger point therapy:
Trigger Points are accumulations of waste products around a nerve receptor. Often times they feel like nodules or taut bands of fibers within the soft tissues. Trigger points form in muscles which have been overused or injured due to an accident or surgery. Common characteristics are increased muscle tension and muscle shortening. Increased muscle tension is the primary side-effect of trigger points, and pain is the most common secondary effect. Trigger points can present themselves as referred patterns of sensation such as sharp pain, dull ache, tingling, pins and needles, hot or cold, as well as can create symptoms such as nausea, ear ache, equilibrium disturbance, or blurred vision.
Pre- and Post-Natal:
A massage that is done in the side-laying position, which anyone can benefit from and can be particularly helpful for expectant mothers with the focus being on circulation and aiding comfort.
Reflexology:
Reflexology is an ancient healing art based on the principles that there are reflexes in the hands, feet, and ears that correspond to every part, organ and gland in the body.
Swedish:
Employs a series of long, gliding strokes, kneading of the muscles. A Swedish masseuse will also create friction and do what's called hacking or tapping across a client's back and shoulders to promote the release of tension. Five basic strokes gliding, kneading, vibrations, friction and hacking are all applied in the direction of the heart in order to encourage blood circulation and the disposal of bodily waste.
Manual Lymph Drainage:
The strokes applied in manual lymph drainage are intended to stimulate the movement of the lymphatic fluids in order to assist the body in cleansing. This is a gentle, rhythmical technique that cleanses the connective tissue of inflammatory materials and toxins, enhances the activity of the immune system, reduces pain, and lowers the activity of the sympathetic nervous system.
